Technical summary

Efficient process, consistent end product.

The defining feature of the RM dryer is its ability to dry liquid digestate at about 8% dry matter without a separator. Fresh liquid feed is remixed with part of the dried product until it reaches 45-60% DM. Liquid forms around the dry particles, creating a belt-compatible granular structure and increasing contact with hot air.

The mixture is distributed evenly on the upper plate belt. Outside air heated by water-to-air exchangers using hot water at around 90 °C is drawn through the perforated steel plates and product layer. Product moves through the belt passes and leaves at 85-88% DM. Part returns to the mixer and the remainder goes to storage or downstream processing.

Because no separator is used, NPK losses associated with liquid/solid separation are limited. Typical digestate may contain approximately N 25 kg/ton, P 30 kg/ton and K 60 kg/ton; no NPK is added during drying.
